A Collection of Tools and Themes that Don’t Work
-
Now that Version 2 has been released together with a ‘lifetime’ subscription, I thought that I’d try the free version before taking the plunge.
The support forum has disappeared, to be replaced by a ticketing system, but they seem to know what they’re talking about.
The main problem I found was in the tools and themes available – none of the official Geodirectory themes worked (probably due to their horrible version of bootstrap) and the Legacy version just looked really messy.
I’ve never had a problem with bootstrap on any other themes, but this version is a whole new ballgame!
And why choose a different theme if I’m going to use the Geodirectory plugin, that is naturally going to work with ALL Geodirectory themes?
So my review scores are made up of the following:
5 stars for support.
-4 stars for the bootstrapped Geodirectory themes.
-4 stars for the suggestion to use a non-Geodirectory theme on a website powered by Geodirectory to make it work properly.
With a final result of -3 stars, it’s a good job that I held back on taking the plunge!
** Edit **
I’ve still got major issues with the GeoDirectory themes, which run on an old version of Bootstrap.
The alternative is to use a newer version of a Geodirectory theme, which use a newer version of Bootstrap – the problem being with the newer themes is that they use the new WordPress Block Builder, which makes your computer flash wildly and force you to do a hard refresh every five minutes.
Hardly the ideal scenario for a directory plugin and theme?
So I bit the bullet and tried running the Geodirectory Plugin on a different theme, which seems to have fixed most issues, except that designing your directory now becomes just as nightmarish unless you use a page-builder.
Review score amended from 1 star to 3 stars thanks to the owner of Geodirectory putting in lots of input over the past few days, but until they can get their themes right, I’m afraid that I will not be using them.
