• Hi All,

New Year Greetings (though a belated one – greetings are always Good ?? ). I am pleased to announce a preview launch of our sites that are powered by WordPress.

Dollars 5 Complete is a mobile consultant – now entering into end-user application developer. We have redesigned and created a new corporate identity and decided to go with WordPress to power our sites.

The main site will display Products and it is called Dollars 5 Complete and we have an OSS (Mobile Open source project hosting from company), beta and freeware area called Dollars 5 Compile Labs and user support forum to be powered by phpBB (pending setup)

Please review the design, usability and help us improve the functionality and usability through your valuable suggestions and criticism. The site is now filled with dummy content and will change on actual site launch – so please bare with me.

I am very much thankful to moshu, HandySolo and others who helped me with support through forums; All pluggin writers – esp for WP Backup, Custom contacts(VaamYob), excerpt reloaded(Kaf Oseo), post image(Kaf Oseo), subscribe 2(Matthew Robinson), get custom tags (Scott Reilly) for their contribution to the community. Theme writers for helping us providing a good starting point – Hemingway reloaded (WordPressLab) and other themes (used them as reference).

We also plan to release the theme – but

Oops- missed the important part and submitted in half way. Currently our engineers are busy with other projects and sooner when they are free you can expect a release of the theme – with proper documentation etc (currently it has minimal document – and I do not want other to get into trouble because of me ?? )

    Thanks for your feedback.

Nice, clean, usable, readable…. both sites have that slick corp look – the only thing that surprised me is that the look is so different site to site, there seems to be no coherence to relate your lab site to your main site….

It was on purpose. First we thought of have uniform look – but latter we decided to host and isolate the Compile Labs (based on Hemingway Reloaded theme) – the reason – main site just displays products and does not accepts user registration (it only accepts mailing list subscription), the Labs site allows user registration – we want to define the boundary of the a registered user – thus 2 sites with different theme.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I would like to know how to secure my site from hackers: any detailed reference material on this available?

Are we supposed to change file permissions for this – pls help.

And from existing WordPress site owners – what other measures you do to secure your site and backup contents automatically. Please advise.

have a look at Hardening_WordPress for some thoughts.

Thanks HandySolo – that one was good and implementing the suggestions over there.

I was also looking into pretty permalinks – it recommended to use .htaccess for mod-rewrite – but I was not able to locate on the GoDaddy hosting root. asked to MichaelH at https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/90720?replies=7 (yet no replies) – any one experienced with this pls let me know. (Disclosure – I am noob to mod_rewrite and apache configs)

I think the layout blows up in some browsers. In Opera the search box is over the logo.

    https://www.dollars5.com/plete/ is a rip of https://simplebits.com/

I thought it looked familiar and the source code structure is strikingly similar.

https://www.dollars5.com/pile/ is a use of the Hemingway theme without any credit.

You, or whoever created it for you, should be ashamed.

Whoops, I didn’t see that you mentioned it’s based on Hemingway Reloaded.

Regardless, the .com/plete version is still too similar to https://www.simplebits.com to be an accident.

Nice design. However, if you plan to market to Macintosh users, you need to check your design and make sure it is compatible with Apple Safari.

On Safari, the search box is drawn directly over your corporate logo. I checked it in Firefox on the Mac; it looks fine with your search box located on the right. I am no longer on a PC (switched back to the Mac and I will never go back), but IE was the most problematic browser to ensure total consistency (vs. Firefox, Navigator).
