I have recently switched over to BLC Cloud from the local version and have a couple of questions:

    1. is there any way to add an exclusion list like there was on local scanner? I’d like to exclude checks of things like affiliate links as these always cause errors, even though they are working links
    2. The cloud scanner is reported 250+ “broken links” on my site, where the local version had shown none. These seem to be all “403 forbidden” links. Checking a hand full of these shows they do actually all work. Is there any way to bulk dismiss/ignore from the cloud dashboard as clicking each of them individually to ignore takes forever
    3. when a link has been ignored, it still shows up in the list, is there any way to hide them

the way the local version worked seemed to be much better to be honest, but i have found recently that it’s started to cause massive CPU and RAM usage on my server so have switched over to the cloud version

    Hi @wpsi1

I hope you’re well today and thank you for contacting us.

is there any way to add an exclusion list like there was on local scanner? I’d like to exclude checks of things like affiliate links as these always cause errors, even though they are working links

No, currently there’s no option to set an exclusion list. There are some types of URLs that are already excluded out of the box

    https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/broken-link-checker/#scanned-skipped

but you can’t define your own yet. There’s a plan to add exclusions list in future but I don’t have ETA.

This usually is related to settings/security rules of the checked URL. The “403 forbidden” HTTP status is issued if the checked URL “does not allow” incoming request. In case of Local engine, all those checks are made directly from your site and server while with Cloud engine – it’s from our crawler app. This may make a difference.

If those 403 are coming from your site, you would need to make sure that following IPs and/or user-agent string are allowed in any firewall your site or server may be using:

    165.227.127.103
    64.176.196.23
    144.202.86.106

WPMU DEV Broken Link Checker Spider

when a link has been ignored, it still shows up in the list, is there any way to hide them

It should get “grayed out” when it’s set to be ignored and it will not be scanned again. If it was removed, you wouldn’t be able to “unignore” it. At least for now since there’s only one list and no additional settings.

    Kind regards,

Hi Adam, many thanks for the reply and explanations.

By way of further feedback, i think the ability for the user to add exclusions would be very beneficial, so it would be great if that was added at some point.

Regarding those that have been ignored, that;s useful to keep them available but it would just be nice if there was a way to filter or categorise the list so that i could hide those that were ignored previously, and just focus on anything new/still needing action

The exclusion list is very much important as said. In my case the edited links were not actually updated through cloud. Update link works fine in local mode. But local mode doesn’t show errors like cloud. This is a tricky situation.
