• Some days I just want to curl up under a rock and cry. As usual, things look A-OK in FF. But when I looked at it in IE….. *Whaaaaa!*
For the most part it’s OK, except the sidebar menu is forced to the bottom. *sigh* I started with Kubrick, then modified the CSS a little, and messed with the graphics. Now it looks exactly as I want it in FF. Now, if I can get it to work in IE too, I’d be most happy.
OK, now, I know at least ONE of you will suggest that I “force” my users to use FF instead of IE. Uh-huh. Sure. Do us all a favor, and don’t even bother with that remark.
OK, I know that at least a couple of you will try to validate the html. It isn’t going to validate. The html that’s returned by David’s AmazonFeed plugin wraps div tags inside a href tags, which is an XHTML no-no. I haven’t fixed it yet. But that aside, if some one could help me out, I’d be mucho-appreciated.

  • I wouldn’t even mention that your site is best viewed in Firefox! It was annoying enough that sites had those buttons stating “Best viewable in IE” or Netscape. *LoL* Thank you for not stating that. (I love Firefox, though, don’t misread me.)
How difficult would it be to tweak again from scratch, one by one? At least you could narrow down when it all goes wrong. Aside from you trying that, I’m not sure why the sidebar shifts below the main text in IE. *sigh*
I guess you got tired of your previous layout? =/

Ok, I know you don’t want to hear this, but I can’t think of anything else, especially this late. Validating your CSS returns two footer errors. I guess they could be involved with mixing up the sidebar and footer in IE. Take a look: https://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Ftechgnome.anderson-website.net%2Fwp-layout.css&usermedium=all
Also, there is a fix for making the footer fit correctly in IE, I suppose there’s a possibility for this helping too. https://www.ads-software.com/support/5/15971#post-92458
    Good luck!

OK, so now the CSS validates…. Still having probs in IE. Looking at it with fresh eyes, it looks like the sidebar is wider than in it’s supposed to be. does any one know of something similar to the web developer bar in FF, but for IE? That would make it easier for me to figure out WTF is going on.

There aren’t many there, but the ‘show blocks’ does indicate that the menu is about 30px ? too wide.

TG, try to reduce the #sidebar width (from 215) to 206 px or less. I think it will work, but don’t ask me why ??

That was my thought too. I tried to reduce it to 200, but it didn’t take. But as I think of it now, I wonder if it was because of the cache (despite a ctrl-f5 hard refresh).
Will try that as soon as I get the chance.
    Grrrr. stupid IE…..
    TG

Is it the search box ?
That seems to be the only fixed width element, and comparing the padding/margin between that and the FF view, removing it could allow the fit ?

Still no love…. shoot… why is this so friggin hard?
    **UPDATE*
    SCORE!!!
It wasn’t the search form, but rather the sidebar itself and some padding that was in there. I was able to modify the CSS to scrink it down for IE, and to leave it as is for FF, and now it works great on both browsers again! Woo-hoo!
Thanks to all for your time & help.

    Excellent news ??
