• Hey team,

The plugin is good to start with but here are some issues that are not allowing us to use it for our projects.

    Editing of Subtasks

After making the permission to edit or complete a task only available to the admin or project managers, the tasks are not editable by the users, which is good.

But, the subtasks are still editable by the users and they can complete them even when they are not assigned to it. They should only see subtasks that are assigned to them or at least they should not be able to complete it.

    Project Hierarchy

When we create a project, the plugin allows us to create tasks which can have further subtasks.

Till then, it is good to go but it also allows to create subtasks of the subtasks and so on which can create a whole mess as each subtask window is opened just like the main task window with tabs of activity, subtasks, etc.

We don’t think that someone would need to go that deep down in the hierarchy and also there is no reason to have comments for the sub-sub-sub tasks too.

It would be great if the attributes and functionality of Subtasks is reduced and only limited details can be their for assigned users.

    Permission Issues

When we use Zephyr User as a role it works well with the permissions. But, if the same permissions are provided to the Editor or a different role that we already have on WordPress then it starts behaving weirdly. The editor was able to edit tasks, and remove the manager itself from the task even when only view access was there.

If we can fix these things, we will be able to take the PRO version in the near future because at present, because of these bugs, the plugin is not usable.

    Hi,

Thanks so much for getting in touch and for the feedback.

    Please find my answers below.

    • Subtasks editable by users when not assigned: I have added a new permission called “Edit Assigned Tasks” which will allow the user to only edit tasks assigned to them.
    • Subtasks completable by users when not assigned: You can set it so that only assigned users can complete tasks by going to Zephyr > Settings > General Settings and setting the “Who can complete tasks” option to “Only Assigned Users”/
    • Removing ability to create subtasks of subtasks and removing discussion functionality from sub-subtasks: I would be happy to help with providing custom code to achieve this, but feel like removing the discussion and removing the ability to create subtasks of subtasks would break the workflow of existing members. To provide custom code for this, I just wanted to confirm exactly how you would like it to work. Would you want it to only allow creating subtasks of tasks, but not subtasks of subtasks, or should there be a specific maximum level of hierarchy and then removing the extended functionality of subtasks? If so, could I kindly ask if you could confirm exactly which features you would want removed for sub-subtasks? Thanks.
    • Editor role able to edit tasks and remove manager from tasks when access is not assigned: This has been resolved now.

The changes have been added to the latest updated version.

Please let me know if this helps as expected.

    Thanks again for your time.

    Kindest regards,

    Dylan

    Hey Dylan,

For the subtasks custom code, we only want Project->Tasks->Subtasks

And, the subtasks should only have work to be done like “Edit this Article” and it can be assigned to a particular person. They can complete it once done.

Also, is this possible that we can update the name of Tasks to Topics? We were also not able to find any option to edit the emails that are going.

So, I just checked the subtasks, it should have the following things:

    Subtask Name
    Subtask Description
    Start and Due Date
    Assignees
    Team
    Project
    Status

And, it should not have Discussion, Files, etc.

It would be great if it can be opened as a popup instead in a new page with similar task like structure. It confuses the users.
