• This is my first wordpress site that I have developed (mostly) on my own. I have a few questions.

    The site is at
    https://www.bbcard1.com/205

Ideally I would like to accomplish the following on the front page:
I would like to turn the front page not so much into a blog but to make it more static.

I would like the blank blue tab, Advertisment and Blogroll plugins to go away, but I can’t find them.

I would like there to be only a text area which will be about 1/3 of the page on the right hand side.

Alternately, if I could just make the first page like a secondary page, I could build it from there…but I have no idea of how to do it.

    Appreciate the help

  • What theme are you using?

For the blogroll, try going to Appearance->Editor->Sidebar, scroll down until you see <div id=”sidebar-right”>. Just below this you will see the blogroll, which you can go ahead and delete.

Or just add a widget of your choice to the widgets section, which will overwrite the blogroll.

It looks to me after visiting your site that the advertisement at the top is actually not an advertisement, but rather a theme header.

You might want to consider experimenting with the vast library of available themes on WordPress, to get the look that would suit your needs.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi bbcard1:

Almost certainly the “blank”, Advertisement, and “Blogroll” are widgets running in your side bar.

In your dashboard, goto: Appearance >Widgets.

Look to the far right for widget tabs under your side bar. Click on the down arrow and click on delete widget from side bar or drag the entire widget back to the available widget window.

You can also use the “text” widget in your available widgets to create a text field in the side bar – just drag it in the opposite direction to the sidebar.

Last, but not least, making a regular page your home page instead of post page is easy. First create a regular page and add your content – call it something like “main” or “home”. Then goto your dashboard >settings >reading > select “static page” and then goto drop down and pick the “main” page you want as your static front page for your site.

    Good luck!

    Ron
