Hey Marc, Thanks for your great TOC plugin! Can I impose on your with two questions?

    1. I am using GP Pro. If I want absolute flexibility to change the style of TOC in the future, would I be best to set up a Global Style and then a Local Pattern containing a TOC and then place that wherever I want a TOC?
    2. Just placing it on a page as a test, I found a slightly odd behaviour. If I tap it opens (great) and if I tap to close it closes perfectly (great) but after closing, if I mouse away on desktop the background changes to a solid colour which is in keeping with my theme, but oddly, the ‘Table of Contents’ wording is hidden. Mouse back over and the background changes to gray (preferred), and the wording ‘Table of Contents’ is visible again. I experienced this also on mobile once but then it seemed to work fine thereafter. Just wondering why that might be?
    3. I gather there is no way to change padding/ indentation on mobile? I am finding the contents could be a little less indented than presently.
    4. In what situation/reason would I use Force absolute urls Adds the permalink url to the fragment.”? Is this a benefit for SEO or other reason?
Happy new year to you….thanks for your time!
      Simon

Hi! Great to hear that. Thanks. Please leave a review here

    1. I don’t know GP Pro. SimpleTOC is a Gutenberg Block and works like one. I have no idea what other plugins do. You can style SimpleTOC with Gutenberg. See FAQ.
    2. SimpleTOC is an unordered HTML list with no additional html and css. So it looks exactly like this list in your theme on any device. Hence, the Name: Simple TOC. It is basic, and therefore I don’t see a problem here. Style your lists with Gutenberg, and SimpleTOC will inherit this.
    3. When you do advanced stuff with scripting with SimpleTOC you will need the absolute URLs. If you don’t know why, then you properly won’t need this feature. But that shouldn’t stop you from donating ??

    Hi Marc

In point (1) why did you say ”?I have no idea what other plugins do.?“?

In Point (2) “therefore I don’t see a problem here” sounds defensive. I was not complaining at your or the plugin, but instead was reaching out to ask if, maybe, you had heard of this behaviour before and might have a hint as to why it was happening.

In point (3) I get it – this plugin is free so answering newbie questions must be tedious. So when you say “If you don’t know why, then you properly won’t need this feature” I have to share that I feel this answer does not help anyone feel good or provide any value.

And further in point (3) you say “But that shouldn’t stop you from donating” and I feel your frustration here….so many people use the fruits of your labour and don’t donate…its just not fair, is it? I feel you’d be happier if you charged a small amount and put that toward building a GPT or a VA that could answer questions.

And when you invite me to “Please leave a review”, I just can’t understand why you’d invite this and then go on to write your reply the way you have.

I know you won’t like this reply – I know, because if you took it on board you probably wouldn’t have written it this way in the first place.

Now, I realise its probably not worth your time to actually try and help with the questions I raised – the cost in your time when this is a side gig just isn’t worth the donation and the great review I would have happily given. I get it.

    Dear Simon,

Thank you for your candid feedback. I apologize if my previous responses came across as dismissive or defensive – that was certainly not my intention. I truly value your use of the plugin and your reaching out for support.

    1. Regarding your query about other plugin GP Pro: I regret that I couldn’t provide the specific insight you were looking for. My aim was to express the limitations of my knowledge outside my own plugin, not to dismiss your experience. Or isn’t GP Pro a Plugin? Maybe this was a misunderstanding?

    2. On the issue of donations and reviews: I appreciate every user, whether they can contribute financially or not. My mention of donations and reviews was intended to highlight ways users can support our work, but I see now how it might have come across differently.

I’m here to assist you better. Could you please elaborate on your initial queries so I can offer more targeted help?

?GP Pro is a theme but it comes down to the ame thing: SimpleTOC looks and feels like a ordered or unordered list. There is no additional HTML added that has any effect on the look. And when I point to the faq I am sure that all questions are answered there. So please have a look at it and try to style SimpleTOC like any other Gutenberg block with groups and the styling options there. I am really happy for everybody who uses the plugin and is happy with it like I am. Maybe the assumtion is that many people donate or that this plugin is a side-hussle. It really is not. I put so much work in it in my spare time for myself and others and every three months or so somebody is donating $5. Sometimes it is more but more often less. I think I wrote an honest and helpful answer and I am really sorry if this carry over.
