a few questions about plugins

I was looking for a related posts plugin and a mod said that the wasabi plugin seems to be dead. i’m assuming that it worked once, but stopped? when you install a plugin, do you have to worry about it ‘breaking’ one day because of poor coding, or is just that these plugins become outdated and call different files/variables when wordpress upgrades come out?

also, does wordpress have a list of ‘safe’ plugins? if you can recommend a working plugin for the related posts, that would be great. thanks.
