I’m testing the utility of ZotPress for displaying references from a public Group Library. Ultimately the goal is to have ~100 references organised into groups, probably using Collections and/or Tags.

However, testing with a tiny set of references organised in 3 collections and with 3 tags (the page contains a link to the public library itself), I can’t get the [zotpressLib] shortcode to display a functioning dropdown with either collections or tags. The type="searchbar" and searchby="items, tags" also don’t give a functioning search.

Also, the library display on the ZotPress backend has the exact same problem. I’ve set the Group library as default and it is the only connected library.

Since the documentation (Help & FAQ) nowhere mentions Group Libraries specifically, I’m wondering whether I’ve run into a snag with group libraries specifically or whether something else might be the matter.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Have you tried troubleshooting from here? https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/having-importsync-issues-check-here-first/ I’ve just tried this on my end with a group library and have no issues. I did specify which group, e.g.,

    [zotpressLib userid=”#######” type=”searchbar” searchby=”items,tags”]

If it’s happening on the back-end as well, I suspect it’s a user ID or private key issue. Can you check those on the Zotero website side?

Thanks for your response! Yes I have tried to troubleshoot from there. Private API key works (used 7 minutes ago according to Zotero) and user ID double checked. API key set to Read only and Read/Write permission doesn’t make a difference. (It is also not a local client <> Zotero server syncing issue: the public library shows the collections and tags are present.)

The “Browse” tab on the ZotPress back end does display all items in the library, just like my test page (which precludes a key or ID issue). But the dropdown just has “Top level” (left) and “Loading…” (right) — no collections or tags in sight. On the site it looks exactly the same when using the following shortcode call (ID removed):

    [zotpressLib userid="XYZ" sortby="author" type="dropdown"]

And when I set a specific top level collection, nothing is displayed at all. It is as if my ZotPress doesn’t know about the collections in the group library.

    [zotpressLib userid="XYZ" sortby="author" toplevel="JS8Q8AKB"]

Just a shot in the dark here — for userid, are you using the numeric Zotero one?

BTW this is the group library in question — I can make you member if we want to have parity in testing though I don’t think there’s anything special here: https://www.zotero.org/groups/2459672/grammar_watch/library

I’m using the one that appears under “choose account” in the ZotPress Options tab (and the numeric ID is the same as the number that directly follows /groups/ in the group URL)

Whoah! I just deleted the cache using the button on the ZotPress Accounts tab and it seems to work now! One to add to the troubleshoothing page ??

Perhaps the underlying issue is that I first added the items to this library and added collections and tags for testing later. If ZotPress just checks whether items were updated it wouldn’t have found a reason to refresh the cache and so it wouldn’t have known about the new collections

Hm, not sure what it could be! But please let me know if it happens again. Sometimes after updating there are issues, and clearing the cache can resolve them.
