• Here’s my site: https://www.AngelaBenson.com/

As you can see, I’m using the blog as my web page because it seemed easiest to update that way. Here are my three problems.

    1) You’ll also notice that I fumbled around with the code enough to get access wordpress from my main folder. I think I may have a problem though in that you can still get the page at https://www.AngelaBenson.com/wordpress/. Did I do something wrong? Should the index.php still exist in the wordpress directory? I’m worried if I delete it, I’ll start getting 404 errors. But I’m worried if I don’t, someone the two pages will get out of synch.

2)You’ll also notice that I’m not using permalinks. I just figured our what they were and I tried to implement them and everything worked well EXCEPT that when I open a page to look at a specific post, the image doesn’t display. Since it displays on the main page, I’m not sure what’s happening. It seems I must have put the images in the wrong directory. They’re in the “images” directory that’s one level above the wordpress directory. I also using the Upload command on Admin menu and use that image location, but I still got the missing image when on the post page. Am I doing something wrong with the images or with the permalinks?

    3) Right now I’m using WordPress 1.5.1. My hosting service, westhost, also has 1.5.2. I want to upgrade but I’m afraid I’ll have problems because of what I’ve done with #1 and #2 above. Should I even bother upgrading to 5.2 or just wait until Westhost allows 2.0? Will what I’ve done in #1 and #2 cause my problems.

  • Im confused, but that’s not hard to do lol

    1) I have mine on main page but that’s where I installed it to instead of /wordpress/ directory. How did you ‘tweak’ it?

    2) Not used permalinks before… sorry I’m no help there.

    3) Could you save your data, do a fresh install of WP 2.0 in your root directory and then add your data? That’s what I’d do, but that’s because atm I don’t know what you’ve tweaked and I’ve also seen some peope have probs updating.

I’m sure someone else knows more!

    1. How did you get WP to appear in the root if it’s installed in a directory? Did you used/follow this tutorial?
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
(though it might be down now)
    2. Well… in a way even the https://bensonink.com/?p=70 is a kinda “permalink (=permanent link), but for that you don’t have to do anything!
Using the “nice” permalinks would mean URL like this:
    https://bensonink.com/90-day-bible-challenge-day-8
Regardless, I can see the images when I am on a single post view. However, if you use relative path for the images (as opposed to absolute) it might cause problems.
    3. The upgrade should not affect anything like that.
To upgrade to 1.5.2 – I’d say a must: for security reasons.
Upgrade to 2.0… hmmm. Don’t rush.
