As I watched the daily stats, I noticed one URL had a long string of characters that I could not explain. They came after a link to one of the posts but there was a very long string of characters as well as “… ?page=slimview …” When I copy and visit that URL it takes me to a SlimStats page just like any other link without that long character trail.

What exactly is the significance of that long string that appears only on one post URL?

    Thank you,

    Cemal

Glad to share the information you asked for. Find the screen capture at the following address with the string of characters blurred. If you like, I can share with you the full link via safe means.

I also observed that the odd display happens when I view the daily stats but not when I view the period stats, say last four weeks.

    Thank you,

    Hi @acekin,

Thank you for providing us with the screenshot, and we apologies for the delayed response.

The links in the “Top Web Pages” section are actually some kinds of filter. Once you click on them, the filter is set to “permalink equals {page}” and shows the data for that specific page, therefore, the link you copied and visited opens the SlimStat dashboard with the applied filter. Please check this image for reference: https://i.vgy.me/8S0xW1.png.

The part you blurred indicates the actual URL used to visit the post/page. As an example, you might have a page “Sample Page” with this permalink: your-site.com/sample-page/. A user might visit this page using your-site.com/sample-page/?utm_campaign=test, another user might visit the page using the plain URL, your-site.com/sample-page/. This will result in 2 different entries in the “Top Web Pages” section. Please check this image for reference: https://i.vgy.me/MWWPfo.png.

Could you please share the blurred part with us? If there is any sensitive information, please make it partially blurred.

    Regards

Thank you for looking into the issue. I am aware of the filter function but no other link has the long string of characters after it. I have a screen capture that shows the full gobbledygook. If you have difficulty reading the full code, here is what it says:

    ?page=slimview2&fs%5Bresource%5D=equals+%2Falbert-kahn-the-archives-of-the-planet%2F%3Ffbclid%253DIwY2xjawF7L4lleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHVzCwgbeGP92McDnItVos6EL1Yv50kZHc2RRUpwFasTrzF_2HzZzCVrNJQ_aem_hUcPCTOQ3Z1aCr273jkprw

And, here is the link to a newer screen capture with no blurring:

Thank you for sharing the full URL @acekin!

As mentioned in my previous comment, when you click on or visit the link, it applies the permalink filter.

In this specific case, the URL to access the post was /albert-kahn-the-archives-of-the-planet/?fbclid=IwY2xja...; when you click on it it will filter the data for this specific URL.

Kindly note that the fbclid parameter is from Facebook. If you shared this post on your Facebook page, the parameter is automatically added to the URL when users visit the post from Facebook.

Thank you for the explanation, although I do not have a Facebook account someone else might have shared it. Good to know that there is no suspicious activity.
