A Lot Of Fake Subscribers Via Yahoo

Does anybody know of a fix for this?

It’s only getting worse.

Are they confirmed? or not?

If not, you could remove them. If they are confirmed, are you sure they are fake?

Status was “subscribed” for all of them and yes, I’m sure they’re fake.

The pattern of [email protected] followed by a name which doesn’t correspond with the initial … over and over and over …

Me thinks there’s a new bug or backdoor with the plugin.

In short, fake signups can happen in 2 scenarios:

1. Fake WordPress users, most common reason.

Check to see if those fake subscribers are actually fake WordPress users. You might want to find solutions to avoid bots using the registration form of your site.

2. Fake subscribers. See support article for solutions.

Well, either way, ALL of the emails above appear in the stopforumspam.com database. It might be worth considering to create an option to compare such emails to said database. I’ve since lowered my ranking/opinion of MailPoet to three stars.

I’m exploring your plugin extension as well and if it proves useful, we’ll see …

I am facing the same issue but not just with yahoo email addresses.
Yes, plenty of them follow the same pattern
Email: [first_name] [last_name] [3-5 digit random number]
But not all of them!

I have the registration disabled and my main concern is that since few days such email addresses started to get confirmed.

Hey! Look at this! I wonder … since every email I’ve googled on the matter shows stopforumspam.com as a result, maaaybe the plugin could implement their API!

I was checking the emails and unfortunately not all of them are listed on stopforumspam.com

Following the instructions, I installed WangGuard Connector plugin but still no luck.

Last night I’ve got 27 confirmed email addresses out of 73. So… 73 of fake subscribers already passed WangGuard.

Just 11 out of 23 confirmed emails are listed on stopforumspam.com

Desperately looking for a solution

Finally I’ve found somebody with the same problem.

The wpshout.com had the same issue and they’re claiming here https://wpshout.com/goodbye-captcha/ this plugin solved the problem.

I’ve got the Mailpoet extension and it seems to work. In an hour blocked like 5 fake users.

For me it’s working like a charm. 207 attempts blocked over the weekend and… counting. No fake email addresses at all! Amazing!
Also, I can see the email address that has been blocked.

Yah, Robin, I’ve seen that issue with comments but as the author replied there is an incompatibility with Jetpack.
