  • No, I installed WordPress at a server hosted with Infinology.com. Infinology uses H-SPHERE Control Panel. After setting up the MySQL database, I installed WordPress 2.8.2 via filezilla.

When I go to https://www.mysite.com/public_html/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php I get a 404 error. The install que doesn’t come up.

At the least, I think I would get a WordPress error asking me to create a configuration file, but I get nothing but 404.

Where did you see the information to use http:/www.mysite.com/public_html/workdpress/wp-admin/install.php

The only instruction I saw was to type https://www.mysite.com/worldpress

And all I get is, “Page not found”

boge, here is my email address. [email protected] if you will send me your email address I will be happy to shared any information I can get with you. Would you be willing to do the same? It doesn’t appear that we will receive much support from this forum.

    Thanks,

BTW I am getting the same 404 error you are.

    RT,

Here is the site I worked off of
    https://foliovision.com/2009/07/16/installing-wordpress-on-hsphere/

If you have any luck, definately post it here. I am sure others would benefit because the info is pretty thin out there for what seems to be plaguing us.

    Boge, RT…
I believe you are typing an invalid URL address for your WordPress install.

It is easy to confuse web URL addresses with the real folder path (or ABSPATH) for your web account. Both ‘wwwroot’ and ‘public_html’ are part of a physical path to your files on the host server that look like ‘C:\users\your-user-name\wwwroot\wordpress-folder\’ on Windows or ‘/users/your-user-name/public-html/wordpress-folder/’ on Linux. This physical path up to and including ‘wwwroot’ (or ‘public-html’) is hidden from web browsers for obvious security reasons.

This means that after you upload WordPress files to your ‘wwwroot’ or ‘public-html’ directory on your server, the correct URL to install WordPress via the browser is ‘https://www.mydomain.com/wordpress-folder/wp-admin/install.php’. If the wordpress files are in ‘wwwroot’ (or ‘public-html’) itself and not in its own a subdirectory folder, then your install URL would be ‘https://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin/install.php’.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the info, Helened. I tried several combinations with no luck

    RT,

Taking into account Helened’s solution, I came to the conclusion that the WordPress installation 2.8.1 was not working. I did find that several folks were having difficulties with 2.8.1 and suggested downgrading to 2.7.1. After installing the 2.7.1 WordPress file to “https://www.mydomain.com”, I typed in ‘https://www.mydomain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php’ and hit enter. Lo and behold I was taken to a WordPress error page telling me that MYSQL Database info was incorrect. After entering in the correct dbname, dblogin, password and host, in the wp-config.php file the installation page came up. (Remember to remove “sample” wp-config.php and add your database info.)

Now I don’t know if this solution will work for you, but it is worth a try. Let me know if you have further questions. I will check back frequently.

Here is the download for 2.7.1:
    https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-2.7.1.zip

One more thing, once you have your WP 2.7.1 installation complete, you can run the automatic update to version 2.8.2.

I had problems with the 404 during install and followed bogecommunications’ link, successfully installed and then upgraded. Thanks!
