A new movie metadata

Would be nice indeed, but sadly not gonna happen anytime soon as TMDb API does not provide that information, meaning it would require to use another API.

That being said, the plugin gives the possibility to add your own, custom metadata/details fields, but you’d have to fill it manually for each movie.

Exactly. Furthermore, the plugins has filters that allow to extend its functionnalities, for instance by adding your own movie meta or details. In the end that’s just custom fields, but the plugin makes it easier to integrate and use them along with built-in meta/details.
