• Brand new to blogging and I’m no code warrior, barely competent. I’m a photographer and writer. I would greatly appreciate a critique on my K2 site:

Suggestions for improvement are most welcome.

    Thank you for looking.

  • WOW, your site is fantastic!

I really like the theme you used. It goes really well with the photos.

I like it. Normally I won’t spend more than a few seconds on black themed sites since it is always hard to read and navigate. But yours isn’t bad. But, it *is* hard to read.

Suggestions would be to get more contrast in the text so old folks like me can read it. And you might want to loose the WP version text, it isn’t needed and it can invite the wrong folks that look for specific versions.

And, funny that you have the word “butter”, I use the word as well on mine. ??

I like it, but it’s a bit hard to read. I’d say bump up the gray text just a little brighter.

Also your server was a bit laggy, might want to look into that.

I love dark designs, and yours is very nice. I do have some suggestions:

You should either make the text brighter or make the headlines and links less brighter. That might make the blog more readable.

Perhaps you could play around in Photoshop or whichever photo-editing program you use and chose a color from the header image to use as a color for the headline. The red you are using don’t quite fit in, in my opinion.

    Also: Your photographs are amazing!

    Pretty much unreadable. Sorry.

Thank you all! Very, very helpful and greatly appreciated… I agree on the text color and the idea of using color from the header image for the headlines … yes! Now I’ll just have to find where to change that body text color amidst the sea of CSS. Sigh, like I said I’m no code warrior ….

Hmmm, I’m using bluehost as the server but some of the images are linked from smugmug, which I suspect is the issue on speed. I’ll be uploading images directly to the server from now on.

Thanks again! and any more tips would be appreciated …

It’s k2 with colors changed. meh.

you seem to be missing a good deal alt= tags that ought to be being used when you display your images.

I actually like the dark design, goes well with the pictures. But you definitely need to crank up that font color a little, just make it white or very light grey. Maybe crank up the font size a little too.

Cranked up font size and color. Trying to change primary font to TrebuchetMS but no luck … keep trying.

Thanks for all the great input.

    The pictures are beautiful.
The white on black text is very tough on the eyes. May want to rethink that color scheme.

I’d say you have a very professional looking main website – and beautiful photos. The photos are excellent in the blog, too… it’s pity that you settled with an unprofessional look for the blog.
Bluntly? You are as bad at blog design as good you are at photography ??

I’m a moron when it comes to blogging…pretty new at this. As an average moron…I can tell you your site is awesome. Love the scheme and your photographs. I found it easy to read, clean and very organized.

    Moshu, LOL!

I appreciate bluntness … Okay, you’re the Mod … give me input how to make it better.

    Color, text and background?
    Other issues?
    Suggestions for a theme?
    I am asking …

    BTW,
I find digging into CSS not fun and frustrating. I’m used to WYSIWYG of page layout programs so all the tweaking in code seems … bizarre and archaic … uh oh, now I’ve done it

There is nothing archaic about using text coding. It is the first step to purity, clarity and efficiency.

Root … I understand, but there are things I want to do and things I don’t, things I’m good at and things I’m not … I want the easiest method of posting possible with the greatest amount of flexibility … I just want it to work well and easily … I want my cake and to eat it too … and not have to work for it … I’m an American after all. Thought that might get a reaction, lol
