• I had the perfect domain name worked out for my BLOG for well years.
www.*******.com but it has been taken and I can no longer buy it for $17 or whatever.

It is really annoying because the guy who owns it (Peter x) has written nothing for 2 years and the page just reads:

    Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

I have gone to who.is and tried to call the owner of the blog but I can’t get hold of him – he seems to have moved.

I have also tried to write a comment on the blog but wordpress has not published it.

any advice would be really appreciated – it is a cool name and i’m wondering/hoping that maybe no one owns it and this is just some wierd word press thing – unlikely I know!

    Help…..

  • There’s nothing we can do to help here. Either contact the site owner or chose another domain name.

I’ve had the same problem. A url I really, and I mean really needed for my business was used by someone else but only as a forwarder to another address. So basically wasn’t being used. I looked on who.is, got the contact details, phoned them, got told to email them, emailed them and the guy said he would’nt sell it.

I explained to him about how it would benefit my business, he’s didnt give a monkeys bottom.

I have now connected with Sedo where I can get a email from that domain telling me when and if it is available. Basically if there contract runs out on it, but first they would need to leave it alone and not renew there contract.

No one can Help you here but I would look into Sedo.

Thanks to “Auto-Renewel” you have to wait for them to turn if off first, then let the contract run out.

I was planning to use my own name for the .com but it was taken…. Cant do anything once they are taken but make an offer or hope they dont renew.

There are several reasons why someone may want to keep a domain they own but do not appear to be making good use of.

    • It have been taken by the current owner for a future project
    • They might be using it just for email or an ftp server
    • They may have had a site at that address previously, but have changed the business name – perhaps the company was taken over and rebranded as the new parent company. Any existing links into the old domain can be redirected to their new site if they keep the domain.

If I had a penny for every domain that I want but is already taken…

Anyway, just as cubecolour mentioned, I have several reserved for future projects. I continue to pay for them because I even if I don’t want to do anything in the short term, there’s no way I’m releasing them to someone else because I assume that once they’re gone, they’re gone.

The bottom line is if someone has your “cool” name, it’s theirs if they thought it was cool first. Pointless to wait it out, just find something else to go with.

Agreed, don’t wait. Because even after it expires there is a huge wait time for it to drop, then you have to compete to buy it.
