    I cloned one of my new branded websites so that much of the templates etc would be done (did it before SEO etc, and then re-added the text etc from the old version of a site that was old branding). However the new site seems to have adopted a weird scrolling in white basic text that’s across the top of every WP Admin page and I can’t get rid of it (and its quite big).
    No idea where it’s come from, as its on none of my other 25 WordPress sites and they are all similar plugins etc. It hasn’t had time to get malicious code as it was doing the minute I opened it. Bizarrely the text is my site name but instead of my brand name which is formatted namename (with the TM at end), this scrolling thing is Name Name (capitals, space, no TM).
    I found the code doing Inspect Source on Chrome, and hid it, but it only did it on one page and seems to have come straight back.
    I have a screenshot but it won’t post here – so typing it:
    <li style=”width: 40%;” ‘>
    <marquee style=”width: 100%; font-size: 3-px; font-weight; 600;”
    class=”_web-inspector-hide-shortcut_’>Name Name</marquee>
    == $0

    Any ideas? I’ve even tried de-activating everything in turn but no joy.

    Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

    Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    That hasn’t worked. Its only one of my sites that is doing this and is driving me mad!

    Ok, try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. Hopefully, this will force the default theme to activate and rule out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    It turns out that it was some bizarre monitoring cookie that was installed on Chrome when the hosting was dialled in to support. Searched my entire code for hours for the script that was causing the marquee display and couldn’t find it. So used Incognito and Safari and it disappeared on both, so searched cookies and found it!
