• I installed my original WP site in mydomain/public_html/folder1

    I would like a second in mydomain/public_html/folder2

Before I go ahead and install it, I want to be sure I don’t break anything. currently the url for mydomain takes me to mydomain/public_html/folder1

There seem to be .htaccess files in multiple places: at root, in public_html and in folder 1. I feel confused about this.

Can I ask for some help please – I plan to make folder2 and put a 2nd WP install there… but will I need to sort out .htaccess to make sure the URLs point to the right places? What will happen to the base URL, if 2 installations sit lower down in the file tree – where will it lead the user to?

Are you planning to access your websites like https://mydomain.com/folder_1/ & https://mydomain.com/folder_2/?

If so, nothing to worry. Create the second folder & you can access the new website on the https://mydomain.com/folder_2/ URL.

What’s in .htaccess file in root folder? When we install WordPress in a folder, WordPress will create seperate .htaccess file in that folder. Don’t need to manually edit that one. If file permissions are proper, they will be automatically updated as per our settings.

Hi, you don’t need to worry about .htaccess , they are created automatically. Just don’t try to modify them by yourself, it may lead to crush the site.

Go and make another installation on another folder, don’t worry. But One thing you may follow, when installing from cPanel WordPress installer, sometime it seems that if you provide same admin email while installation, the installation may stuck in middle (shows undefined installation notice).

Thanks, both of you, that is really helpful and encouraging!

I am curious to see what happens when I visit the base URL, eg. https://mydomain.com, after I have two installations. At present, it carries me right through to https://mydomain.com/folder1

That will be interesting, perhaps it will simply do the same, I don’t know.
