• Hi.

I’ve been lurking a while, and searching for a quite a long time for a solution to my problem, but I can’t seem to find excactly what I need.

I am making a news-site, that is supposed to feature both bigger features and news-stories, as well as smaller, quicker and easier read-news summaries.

I’d like to have my wordpress-frontpage feature a window the same size as my sidebar, with the latest five short news stories I wrote, and not have them show up on the regular feed.

At the same time, I would like to have my front page divided into my five categories.

Ideally the first one would span the entire field of the blog including a picture (minus the sidebar) in a slider, that shows the five latest stories I wrote.

Below this, the other four categories is to be set up in a 2 x 2 grid, with a featured story from each and three links with short summaries in each.

I have very basic html-skills, but I know how to read, and I am a pretty fast learner.

If anyone can point me in the right direction? Is it possible to do this with Plug-ins? Or maybe Widgets?

  • It is possible to do it with widgets but in order to make that possible you need to know how to code HTML/PHP which in turn lets widgets be used. A plugin can’t accomplish this as the configuration will be done through the aforemetioned HTML/PHP.

You could do a search for magazine style themes as they usually have a similar setup on the homepage of the site.
