A theoretical access fix?

  • I currently have not been able to access a website I been handed from another company so I wanted to run something by the community.

    I have a 99% working version on my localhost with the same files that are on the server, so if I made a second DB in the same phpmyadmin then did an import of my local DB and switched the details in the wp-config.php on the server with the problem to my working version of the DB would this allow me access to the site and would the site continue working?

    Or would this completely mess up the website and I would not be able to revert to the original details in the wp-config file of the old DB which works but we cannot access the dashboard at all?
