A wordpress site that opens to a page, not a blog

Hi, and thanks in advance.

I’m helping someone make a site, and I’m trying to figure out how to have a wordpress site open directly to a specific page (rather than a latest blog post).

Also, is there a way to have it default to open the specific page, but then have the blog component available elsewhere on the site?

I hope I’m not being too confusing: what I want is the site to open to the “about me” page, but then there is a link to the blog posts.
