    Most curious,

I installed MailChimp for WooCommerce yesterday and the sync completed (with a few omissions). I installed it on a dev site and subsequently, live site which both happened to be named the same. So the first issue I was having is differentiating between the two in Connected Sites and when I started to create an abandoned cart automation.

I disconnected the dev site, changed its name, then reconnected to have it show up as the URL in Connected Sites, but the name didn’t change when trying to create the abandon cart automation, so I left it as draft for now.

An order came through and now I’m seeing a whole bunch of entries to do with abandoned carts and that individual’s email address. Please tell me it wasn’t sending emails, especially since a) my automation is still in draft b) he actually ordered?

    Here’s the log info: https://pastebin.com/whfuRFsR

  • Hey @tyanta

Thanks for getting in touch. That definitely sounds less than ideal. I’m afraid however that in this case, because the issues are happening within the MailChimp account itself, we’ll need to defer to MailChimp’s Support Team who can access your specific account. They’ll be able to take a closer look at what’s causing this to happen and get things updated. Here’s a link to their support contact info:

    Hi @mcsupport,

    1) I managed to sort out the connected sites thing. I completely uninstalled the plugin and disconnected the site on Dev so I only had one site to set up the abandon cart automation, then I reconnected it.

1.5) Is it advisable to sync a dev and live site to the same list?

    2) How do I test abandon cart emails? On dev, I visited the site, put something in my cart, got as far as checkout and bailed, but no email came through.

2.5) I went to go back to change the amount of time before a send for the dev site and found out that I couldn’t. It says account disabled!? https://www.screencast.com/t/qmj8Cj8rrqU (but only for the dev site) Live and everywhere else seems fine.

    3) I came here for support because I’m on a free plan at the moment (but have been around longer than 30 days) so seems like I’m out of luck when it comes to getting automation set up.

    4) The log keeps getting filled with that individual’s email address. Is there any way of knowing what emails are actually being sent (if any?)

    Thanks.

    Hey @tyanta

Thanks for your response. I am sorry to hear you’re unable to reach out to MailChimp’s Support Team. Unfortunately, I’ll only be able to advise so far here in the plugin forums being unable to access your account.

First, it is totally acceptable to sync a dev site and a live site to the same list and this will not cause errors. That being said, I would be sure to name these stores differently so they appear differently in your MailChimp account. Also, be aware that having test e-commerce data from your dev store and real data from your live store could skew reporting data, which might be less than ideal.

Abandoned Cart Emails can be tested by adding a product to the cart, navigating to the checkout page, and filling in at least the email address field, then navigating to a new website or closing the browser. After taking this workflow, I would check to see if the test email address used appears in the list as “Non-Subscribed” or appears in the Abandoned Cart Automation queue. If it’s not appearing there, there may be a plugin conflict holding up that process on the site.

Finally, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to speak to too much depth as to why you’re seeing the Abandoned Cart email for the developer site disabled, though I would recommend ensuring that the Automation is connected to a list with an active store connection.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

    Hi Malachite,

Good point about reporting. I’m leaving dev disabled for now. I made the mistake of creating a separate list… I guess this would be fine if my dev site wasn’t a clone of live with tons of orders in there. Syncing to a new list… grew it significantly :/ That’s all sorted.

Thanks for the explanation of the abandon cart requirements. I did that but as mentioned, sending was paused (I presume because aforementioned sync caused my to go over my account limit) which explains why I didn’t see anything from it.

Glad to hear things got sorted out, @tyanta. Sorry to hear that pushed things above the limit.

If you have any further questions, feel free to let us know and we’ll do our best to help out.

The initial crazy logs still persist. I did upgrade just to sort this out and someone from the API team is looking into it. I’m hoping for a solution soon as I need to start some holiday promotions. I’d like to have some of this automation in place beforehand though.

    Thanks for your assistance.
