• Hi,

Based on my testing, the abandoned cart email doesn’t get sent to purely list-subscribed email addresses OR to registered user accounts who are logged out, while abandoning the checkout. Is this intentional?

So what are the requirements for it to get sent? Do the users need to not only be subscribed to a list but ALSO be registered users by creating an account on the site AND be logged in while abandoning the checkout?

Is this how it is? (please, clarify) If so, this is way beyond what’s needed for GDPR compliance and makes the Abandoned Cart feature pretty much useless 95% of the time.

I believe that if a logged out user has already subscribed to a list or registered an account and type their email address on the checkout form, it should be perfectly fine to get an Abandoned Cart email. So maybe the problem is with how MailPoet handles the situation technically.

So this is how I think it should work:

    • user types their email address in checkout form
    • MailPoet checks if the email address is subscribed to a list
    • if it is, Abandoned Cart email is sent if no purchase after x mins
    • if it isn’t, do nothing until…
    • user checks the checkout opt-in checkbox
    • if checkbox is checked for over x mins, email address gets subscribed to
    • a list
    • user unchecks the checkout opt-in checkbox
    • if checkbox is unchecked for over x mins, email address gets unsubscribed

What do you think? Looking forward to your response.
    Best regards.

EDIT: After thinking about it, the last 2 bullet points (unsubscribe if unchecked) should not be included in my suggested steps, because in future checkouts this could unsubscribe subscribed users unintentionally if they don’t check the opt-in checkbox.
