Hi, I’m about to launch a website for a client/friend of mine and I’ve been using WP as a CMS, but I’m wondering if there is a way to keep track of page/post versions. I’m afraid that once the client has the site they might accidentally delete something on a page and then want it back–Is it possible to install something that keeps track of page versions and can roll back to a previous version if necc?

    Thanks for any help

  • WordPress has revisions built-in. By default all versions of pages/posts are saved. When editing a post/page it should show all previous revisions in one of the meta boxes.

Hi, I don’t see this option anywhere… My site is based on a ‘blank’ theme that I got from Lynda.com… Is there something that I need to activate that allows this versioning to happen?

    Thanks,

Versioning is on by default. Make sure the “Revisions” meta box is enabled in screen options when you’re editing a page/post.

hmmm, I don’t see a revisions meta box. Is there maybe something I need to activate in my theme to allow for this to happen?

Revisions are theme independent. So, you opened a page/post for editing or created a new page/post, opened screen options at the top right, and there wasn’t an option for revisions?

These are specifically for WordPress.com but it should show you what the screen options dropdown and revisions box look like:
