• Hi,

I was a bit saddened to see that this plugin was not moving forward anymore and by looking at the support threads I realized that it will probably never ever be fixed. Also, it was not meant to work with anything else than the standard gallery, which is quite an issue as WordPress is moving forward with Gutenberg.

My clients really needed something that works, and quick, so I started a fresh new plugin with almost the same name, here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/gallery-custom-links/. It does basically the same thing, but with a totally different codebase, adapted to modern WordPress and PHP. More importantly, it supports any modern gallery (using WP 4.4 Responsive Images), Gutenberg, but of course also the standard gallery.

As it covers everything, it can’t have as many options as this plugin here, as this one was specifically made to only support the standard gallery.

If the developers of the WP Gallery Custom Links are not willing to pursue the development of it, I am willing to fix the issues with this one to make sure it continues to work with the standard gallery and with all its current options.

For support of all the other galleries, I suggest trying the new plugin here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/gallery-custom-links/.

That way, I think we can make everyone satisfied ?? It’s not so good to let this plugin to rust, so let’s save it.

Jordy please stop spamming this forum. I will have to report you if you post any adverts for your plugin on this *support* forum

    Hi @johnogg,

Actually, I don’t think it is spamming. Many users came to me and try to make your plugin work with my gallery, and it wasn’t working. I spent a lot of time trying to make your plugin work and then ended up making my own.

Many users have issues here, and I think it’s would be nice to either help them or write some information somewhere so that they know what to do (in the description of the plugin).

I also proposed to help you in the message above:

If the developers of the WP Gallery Custom Links are not willing to pursue the development of it, I am willing to fix the issues with this one to make sure it continues to work with the standard gallery and with all its current options.

Also, if your plugin only supports the standard gallery, why not proposing an alternative solution (like a link to another plugin) when they ask? That would help everyone, close issues.

By looking at the description of the plugin, this is not clear at all: https://imgur.com/a/JqFZVsV. Spending a few minutes of it would really help everyone.

I will not post “adverts” anymore if you think they are, but I strongly suggest to help your users, they could avoid losing a lot of time by being given simple answers, and probably many other developers also who receive requests to support your plugin.

It’s not like we are competitors, we are just trying to please our customers and ease the support requests. I got many requests from them directly and I had to do something. I hope you understand.

    Hey @johnogg

You don’t bother updating this in 2 years but pop back up two weeks ago to complain at someone who’s done what you should have. It’s fine that you’re not interested in updating a free plugin. I understand that it’s a lot of work to maintain.

But I think it’s poor to post a reply like this rather than actually making your plugin compatible with the current wordpress.

    Well done @JordyMeow

Hi @tigroumeow, thanks for creating that other plugin, will try it asap!
