I’ve been thinking about the way WordPress defines page ids. At first my page ids were quite small. #1-60 so to say, but suddenly when I were creating pages for gallery entries, (I’m using WP as a CMS) the page id’s suddenly jumped fastly up to #700 and now they’re almost nearly #1000. And WP also skipped totally #600-699. ..And I’ve created so far only 43 pages. So what could be causing this? Is it the way I’m editing them or what?

And is there any ways to change page ids?

  • every upload, every post etc. gets a new id.
So, upload 40 images to your page with id=1, then the next page will be id=42.

And every revision of a post or page takes an ID in the wp_posts table. Don’t worry about the page ids being high (or low) there’s not much you can do about it.

Okay, thank you! That cleared this thing for me, finally.

You CAN disable the revisions by means of a plugin.
