Hello! I continue to come here in praise of the plugin!

I raise a situation I wonder if the team has considered. What can we do about images that are above the fold on desktop, but below the fold on mobile?

For example, it’s common for blogs to have a bio box in a sidebar with a profile picture. The sidebar is on the right on desktop, but on mobile, it’s way down stacked below the post content. Or, a gallery where the columns are side-by-side on desktop, but stacked on mobile. The images above the fold are different depending on users with mobile or desktop screens.

Lazy loading such an image helps mobile but potentially hinders desktop. Excluding it helps desktop but hinders mobile.

So it’s like there’s a need for responsive exclusions.

    1. Do you have any comments about how we can handle this?
    2. When I add or remove an exclusion in Optimole’s Exclusion settings, does this take effect immediately, or do I need to click the “clear cached images” button? I’m seeing strange results in my testing, but I’d rather only clear the cache if it would be related to the exclusion lists.

    Cheers!

    Hi Nate,

Yes, we are looking to improve this but right now there is a challenge with cached environments as we can’t add a PHP base logic that can toggle between mobile or desktop reliability when the content on desktop and mobile is using the same cached content.

We might add this kind of feature for hosting that can vary the caching based on device type but is still not yet very stable.

Thanks a lot for your honest feedback.

I see, thank you for the reply.

Did you have any answer about the second question? Thanks!

    Hi @goseongguy,

For this to work cache won’t need to be cleared so whenever you exclude something the effect is immediate, however, if you don’t see it working you can always try to clear cached resources of other plugins that you’re using for your website to make sure issue is not related to any caching.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
