Abusive plugin

  • After installing it for a test, some Bot came from amazonaws.com trying to get sitemap etc etc. Who knows what will come next.

    Since we want NO MORE CRAP Bots and scrapers, we completely deleted the plugin.

    Hi @massimod for Related Content to work, Shareaholic needs to index your content so the recommendation engine knows what to recommend. This actually increases performance, as all the processing (complex math) then happens on our servers vs. bogging down yours and your databases.

    How does Shareaholicbot access sites?

    We do very aggressive caching so you shouldn’t see Shareaholicbot in your logs more than once every few weeks for any one URL. Our goal is to crawl as many pages from your site as we can on each visit without overwhelming your server’s bandwidth. We don’t like waste either, and are clever at not wasting bandwidth – yours or ours. However, if you experience technical issues, please contact us at [email protected]. We recommend attaching any relevant server logs that may help.

    @massimod We index all your content upfront so Related Content is ready to be delivered as soon as you turn it on. The crawl data is also used by Analytics to populate thumbnails, page titles, etc – https://shareaholic.com/publishers/analytics/
