Accentuated letters with shortcodes

The issue you’ve mentioned seems to be an encoding problem. It should be easy to fix but since I can only assume where it lays, I can’t give you any fix right now.

I’m going to have a look at it today or tomorrow and report back. If everything is fine, I’ll officially update the plugin.

In the meantime it’d nice if you could give me a couple of movies where this bug occurs so I can test it.

I think I have a related problem when the film as accentuated letters in the title. The connector seems to not be able to find the title in the IMDB… But maybe it is due the way WordPress codes accentuated letters?

As you probably know, the plugin uses the free unofficial API provided by omdbapi.com which fetches data from the English IMDb. That means that it’ll only recognize the English title (if it was translated, but most are). For example, the English title of “La isla mínima” is “Marshland”. “La Résistance de l’air” is “Through The Air”. A simple way to avoid these incompatibilities would be by using the IMDb ID instead of the title.

I don’t know how omdbapi.com handles accentuated letters in English titles. If you find an example, please share it with me so I can test it.

I just checked the movie details and they display just fine on my test installation. Here’s a screenshot. Can you please try if the bug still occurs when you use a different theme?

This must be a local problem. I’ve checked several titles now, with and without accentuations, and they all display fine (even accentuated actor names). Unfortunately I have no idea how to solve this. It’s a quite weird bug.

Could it be a problem of locale in WordPress (my installation is in french)?

I don’t think so. I have just checked in French translations, and the result is the same: “Bruno Podalydès” is being displayed the way it is supposed to be displayed. See this screenshot.

I’m about to run out of ideas because it’s nearly impossible to fix a bug without being able to reproduce it. Have you ever tried to deactivate all plugins but IMDb Connector and see if the problem persists?

Another idea: Try switching from MySQL saving to local file saving on the IMDb Connector settings page. And please report back.
