I have tried to get this to work several times. Downloaded the newest version, activating the plugin, getting access denied error, deleting the plugin files using filezilla, then when I try to install and activate the newest version of the plugin, I immediately get the access denied error again.

This is a HUGE issue. I cannot access the site at all and need to create an employee portal with secure log in, with access to certain pages. The admin should have access to the back end, subscribers should have access to specific pages, not the back end. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hi @bmawk,

Thank you for the message. It is quite possible that you’ve created access_dashboard capability that simply is not assigned to your admin user. That would explain why access is denied.

The other possible reason is that you’ve restricted Dashboard menu for your admin user on the Backend Menu tab.

In first scenario you can manually change the capability value from 0 to 1 in the wp_options table.

In the second scenario you can reset AAM settings manually by deleting all access settings option in the wp_options, wp_usermeta database tables that start with aam_ prefix.

    Keep me updated.

Yes, I did do this from a knowledge base article:

I restricted the Dashboard menu for my admin user on the Backend Menu tab, not realizing I needed to add the admin role to that group.

What steps do I take to fix that? I do not know where to find this:

“manually change the capability value from 0 to 1 in the wp_options table”

    I sincerely appreciate your help!

    Barbara
