I have been locked out for about twelve hours so far after entering the wrong password. I have created a new pass in phpMyAdmin ready for use.

This WordPress blog is hosted on my own domain, front end is working fine. The plugin in is version .51.8 which is out of date, but I need to get into my dashboard to update…. I also use plugins like Akismet but there are no other security plugins and the normal login screen appeared for the initial password attempts.

To remove the lock out so far I have tried:
    1. Deleting the .htaccess file in the public_html root (empty) and also at public_html/dir level where the file has BPS content (unedited by me)
    2. Renaming the plugin file to _bulletproof-security and also deleting this file
    3. I then restored an earlier backup to ensure no corruption.

Anything else I can try? Thanks in anticipation.

What to do if your User Account is locked by Login Security out and you are unable to login?
Use FTP or your web host control panel file manager and rename the /bulletproof-security/ plugin folder name to /_bulletproof-security and login to your website. After logging into your website, rename the /_bulletproof-security/ plugin folder name back to /bulletproof-security/. Unlock your User Account on the BPS Login Security and Monitoring page.

Also just wanted to point out that you stated your renamed the bulletproof-security plugin “file” and not the bulletproof security plugin “folder”.
