Access of dashboard by non site user

    I have two WordPress Multisite installations, a test environment and a live environment.

    On the live environment i experience an issue that users registered to the network but not to a site the user still can access the dashboard and leave comments and create posts and add pages.

    On the test environment everything works as it should be (or i think it should be) a user registered to the network can’t access the dashboard of this site.

    i’ve compared the wp-config.php and wp-settings.php files and the settings of both environments, but everything compares right.

    What could it be that the live environment does let users access all sites.

    Are all the plugins the same?

    A user registered to the network, but not a site, should be able to leave comments on sites, but not posts and pages!

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    I’ve checked, the test environment has more plugins installed, reproduced to only activate the plugins active on the live environment.

    On the test environment i get the error message “You attempted to access the “test” dashboard, but you do not currently have privileges on this site. If you believe you should be able to access the “test” dashboard, please contact your network administrator.”

    This message i would love to see on the live environment.

    You should! That’s exactly how it’s supposed to work.

    I think you have a bad configuration on your live site, becuase that’s not at all how WP works.

    compared the wp-config.php and wp-settings.php files but they are the same, any idea where i should look

    It’d be in the plugin configurations or the network settings. You’ll have to go line by line in /wp-admin/network/settings.php as well as edit the sites where they have access (via network admin -> Sites -> Edit) and see if something’s off there.

    Can they write on ALL sites or just one or two?

    This has been resolved by re-installing wordpress (export / import of wordpress was not capable of adding the media entries but a SQL dump did the job)
