• Hopefully this question is not too lame.

I went with the option to buy a domain name when I was using WP.com

I have since moved over to WP.org and love it.

However I now need to get emails sorted and cannot find the domains option that I thought was contained within settings. I basically need to access the domain and point the MX records towards gmail.

However I have no idea how to find the domain details (I’ve managed to access the hosting account with godaddy, but not the domain)

    Any ideas MASSIVELY appreciated

  • You need to speak to your hosts about this. It’s not WordPress related.

that’s what I thought, however I can’t find the hosts as it was all set up through WP.com

Do you know I’d find out where to find them?

    Cheers

If you have a self-hosted WordPress site, then you have a hosting package with a 3rd party company.

    Hi there

Great, thanks for the help. I have tried that earlier today but as I moved my site from WP.com to .org after buying the domain name while on .com there seems to be a grey area over how to get access to the domain now.

I can find nothing in the dashboard of .org and when i go back into .com it says the following

    Email Setup

Oops, it looks like you don’t have access to verify the domain in question.

I’ve looked through as many forum posts as I can. I’m sure I am not the first for this to happen to?

Just trying to get access to the domain login so I can get things sorted.

    Thanks

The thing is … Okay this is going to sound like I’m splitting hairs, and I’m sorry for that.

You moved your site from a .com managed host to a .org install on another host.

So what you have to do is figure out how you got your email to gmail in the first place (I think that link I gave you was it) and how to undo it, becuase .org can’t help on that end :/ we just don’t have access for it.

Where did you register your domain?

This might be what you’re looking for. Sounds like you registered the domain with WordPress.com but now want to change the MX records.

    Thanks once again, I tried entering the MX5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. code as shown on that link and got the following;

Your nameservers need to be set to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM and NS2.WORDPRESS.COM for these DNS records to work. If you have already updated the nameservers you can ignore this message; it will stop appearing soon.

    and

We can’t save these records because they don’t look right to us. Check the errors below. Please contact support if you are unable to resolve the problem.

Just really confused and really need email setup for my business. Frustrating ??

Thanks for help thus far guys

I am sorry but these forums are for self-hosted WordPress sites only. Please try asking your question on https://en.forums.wordpress.com/
