Accessing the index.html file to add html

You are correct that WordPress uses .php files rather than .html files.

If you want to use the “meta tag” method for verification, the file you might need to locate is most likely the header.php file in your active wordpress theme.

If you want to use the .html file method for verification, you won’t use “index.html”, but rather an .html file with a specific name that pinterest will look for. See the instructions under “Upload an HTML file” found here: https://help.pinterest.com/en/articles/confirm-your-website.

For issue two, you might consider a plugin solution. A general example from the Plugin Directory might be something like this – Category Specific RSS feed Subscription I’m not sure what else is available, but that’s a general idea of what you might look for in the directory.
