So I somehow had two wordpress databases on the phpMyAdmin thing on my host, and I accidentally deleted the wrong one and now WordPress is trying to have me complete a new installation, which I’ve done. I think my old config file is still there, but I can’t find any of my blog entries – it looks like an entirely new blog. Also, my database was not backed up because I didn’t have the key needed to download the back-up plugin because I was on a really old version of WordPress. If there’s not a way to recover that info, is there a way to use Firefox or Safari to see the old cache of my page so I can at least copy and paste? Any tips on how to fix this?

Any tips on how to fix this?

Contact your host and ask if they have a recent backup of the database. Really is the only option here.

Note for the future: Backups are your best friends.

I think I may be able to copy and paste from Caches, but I don’t know how to read them on my Mac OSX. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Did you by chance have a RSS feed? If so, you may be able to use your feed reader to retrieve the old posts that you lost. I know Google feed reader kept a hold on my blog posts even after I deleted my blog and its database.

unfortunately I had not yet put an rss feed up for my site. I feel like I’m screwed.

You don’t have to put up an RSS feed. WP creates it automatically for you.

On the other hand: did you follow what Kaf was telling you above – contacting your host about a backup? What was the answer?

I’ve been on hold waiting for support for the past hour…just trying to figure out the cache thing before then because that could be the most helpful.

This is not the blog linked to your profile, is it? (because that’s visible)

You will have to google for the vanished site and see what G. has as cached pages…

I just started the new website with wordpress, and while on hold, I got the cached pages on google from my old blogspot blog before I got my own site set up. So I was able to get those up and try to set up my wordpress again, but I had 3 recent entries that were not cached on google or another search engine and that I really need to recover.

I’m in agreement with moshu. It seems as though the only solution you may have at this point is to speak with your hosting provider to see if they have backups available. Otherwise, Google may not have had time to cache your website if it is a newer website. If you come up with a solution, please post it for us all, as I’m very interested in the outcome of your situation. Best of luck.

Will do. If I ever get an agent on the phone…

Just got off the phone with the agent – unfortunately, if you drop your database, there’s no way to recover it. Guess I’ll just have to be more careful next time and try to rewrite those blog posts I dropped. Thanks all for your help!

Miracles of miracles! The cached links to my posts JUST showed up on google so I was able to recover what I lost when I deleted the database by accident. All is resolved. Thanks all!

Awesome. I’m glad to hear that. Now be more careful next time! ??
