    Hi all,

I am working on a new membership website, and I haven’t found an answer for this problem in the forum.

When a user signs up, their Account page “Your Membership” box says “No memberships”.

This box should indicate the membership they chose when they signed up. (I don’t have users yet, but am testing this by creating membership records.)

I found that I can click the Change button, select the desired membership type again, and click to sign up – this returns me to the Account page, where the chosen membership now appears. Not sure why it works the second time, and never the first time.

I did come across something on the WPMUDEV site concerning caching. I am not able to try it as I don’t have a caching plugin on the site.

    Known Issues
Cache plugins can often interfere with plugin functionality. If your users are not being assigned memberships after successfully paying and logging into your site, check if you have object cache enabled in your cache plugin. If so, add the following to the non-persistent fields/groups?MS_Model_Membership?MS_Model_Member?MS_Model_Communication_Invoice

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem and what will fix it?

    Any help is appreciated

    Hello @commontater ,

(I don’t have users yet, but am testing this by creating membership records.

I’m not sure what do you mean by that – can you provide a step by step instruction how you are testing this?

Can you also provide a link where I can see this issue?

    kind regards,
    Kasia

I have a new WP site where no real members have joined yet. I am testing the membership function by adding users on the front end.

On the front end, I create a new user ID with an email address that I own, and then I check to see what this new user ID Account page looks like.

How can I supply a link to you without exposing the site to the general public on WordPress?

    Hello @commontater

    Hope you are doing well!

The thread from https://premium.wpmudev.org/ shared above is very old, and since 2015 Membership 2 had many updates, with the issue mentioned in that forums fixed.

I’ve tested the Membership 2 on my end and could not replicate the same issue. After a user registers and Sign up for a membership, the user becomes a member.

Please let me know, is the membership is paid? If yes, which payment gateway is enabled on your site?

Is the “Enable account verification” option enabled in settings?

To share here a link to your site, please add it in the field “Link to the page you need help with:”

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Kid regards,
    Nastia

    Hello Nastia,
    Thanks for your reply.

    1. I have set up PayPal as the payment method (sandbox mode). I tested the sign-up by choosing a free membership, and also by choosing paid membership, and for both types, the user’s Account page indicates “No membership” — as if they did not select a membership type, at all. For either paid or free memberships, I did get the confirmation email with the link, and that link opens the Account page, where I see “No membership.”

    2. Yes, Enable account verification is enabled in Settings > General. As mentioned, the verification email does get sent, and the link validates the email.

I set PayPal to sandbox before testing the paid membership. I see that I am directed to a PayPal page, anyway. Is that supposed to happen in Sandbox mode??

Weird thing – On the Account page, if I click “Change” in the Membership box, I can choose a membership again, and after that, I see the membership in the Account page.

BTW – Looking at the www.ads-software.com forum page here, I don’t see a field called “Link to the page you need help with.” ?? Maybe available only when a new topic is set up???

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello @commontater

    Hope you are doing well!

Thank you for providing this detailed information. We could replicate the issue when the “Enable account verification” option is enabled and have reported it to our developers. The fix should be available in the next plugin’s release. Please keep an eye on an Updates menu on the admin dashboard.

Have a great day and take care!

    Cheers,

    Hi Nastia,

    Much appreciated! ??

I will watch for the Update.

    Hi Nastia,

Any word on when the update will be available?

Not having the membership working is stopping me from having this site ready for users.

Also, is there any way to set up a Captcha that will prevent spam? I have started to get lots of random sign-ups that don’t look like real users, and I don’t see how to set up a captcha on the registration form.

    Thanks.

    Hello @commontater

    Hope you’re doing well!

I apologize for the late reply in this thread.

Please try the beta version of Membership 2 plugin, that has a fix included, download it from here. Please note, that this is a beta version, so please have a site’s backup before installing it.

You can also find a Pro version available on the GitHub. Any further plugin updates will be done from there, so please feel free to try the Pro version as well.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,
    Nastia

    Hi Nastia,
Thanks for the response. I’m frustrated with WPMUDEV, and will probably not try the fix.
Unfortunately, while I was waiting for updates to Membership 2, I read that WPMUDEV announced that it is discontinuing support for most of their plugins, including Membership 2 — and they were recommending to simply go out and pick basically ANY other membership plugin that is not Membership 2. Here is part of the blog post:

“We’re Setting over 90% of Our Premium Plugins Free! – WPMU DEV”

“…saying farewell and good luck to the over 90% of our plugin catalogue, which you can now find freely available on our GitHub. These include:

“…Membership 2 Pro – The original UltimateMember Which you should probably go and use instead: UltimateMember (or one of the bazillion others out there)”

I was disappointed, of course, that Membership 2 was no longer supported by WPMUDEV. I get it. It’s business. A company can’t sustain a bunch of free users on a host of plug-ins forever. Maybe you guys just needed to pull the plug. The tone of the blog post came across as flippant and sarcastic, like WPMUDEV staff was having a melt-down.

It would be foolish to base the entire subscription payment function of a new website on a product that is being retired by its developer. I saw that it is now on Github – does this mean that it would only be updated or debugged if someone volunteers to do so?

Coincidentally, the same time that I read that Membership 2 was posted on Github, our site started to get lots and lots of spam sign-ups that were not cured by changing the plug-in’s settings. I had to find a spam filter plug-in to stop it. (Maybe somebody quickly spotted and exploited a code vulnerability?)

Based on the blog post and the spam, I sought out other options. The developer who sold us our site’s theme (which included Membership 2) was not even aware of WPMUDEV’s change of plans and had no suggestions for a replacement. The theme developer kind of expected me to try a bunch of membership plug-ins and then tell them which plugins might work with their theme (?). :-\

UltimateMember has part of the solution my site needs, but not things like paid membership tiers. I am trying now to bolt together Ultimate Member and some other plug-ins in an attempt to replace the Membership 2 functions.

This membership issue has cost us weeks of time and delayed our launch/publicity plans.
None of this is your fault, of course. Just wanted you and Team WPMUDEV to know the source of my frustration, and why I probably won’t be trying out the fix.
