I’m using the Classic Editor and I’ve noticed that the word-count tool below the text block no longer updates in real time. If I save a draft, etc. it will update, but then typing in further words don’t make it change.

I did see some errors in the console (though I’ve not been able to recreate them!), and this led me to discover that disabling ACF seems to cause word-count functionality to resume as intended. Re-enable it, and it stops working again.

  • We experience this issue with the classic editor (tinyMCE). Rolling back the jQuery version using the enableJqueryMigrateHelper plugin fixes it. I was hoping it would patched in 5.6.1 (a bug with the visual editor tools not being “sticky” when the window is scrolled was). I’m looking to see if an issue is already open before reporting this.

Update: This was a Firefox issue has been fixed in 5.6.1. I had a writer who was experiencing problems but we discovered he hadn’t restarted his browser since the upgrade. Doing a CTRL-F5 on the window fixed it.
