In order to make some iptc data available for yoast SEO I came up with the idea to store them into custom fields (ACF) as there is a linking plugin between ACF and yoast SEO.I built a field group and added some fields via the ACF plugin. In order to populate some iptc data into these fields I want to build some mapping rules.

The issue is I can’t see any of them in the MLA user interface, neither in the list of available names nor as a data source.

The data (from lightroom) is about systematics (adfs_systematik), habitat details (adfs_habitat), geographic information (adfs_geografie).

So far the MLA AC Fields plugin is not installed.

    Many thanks for your patience.

    Thanks for your question.

ACF fields are stored as WordPress custom fields using the ACF “Field Name” (NOT the Field Label) as the custom field name. The ACF field Names are all lowercase letters and spaces are replaced by underscores. For example, if your Field Label is “Geographic Information” the Field Name will be “geographic_information”.

To use them as a data source simply add the custom: prefix followed by the ACF Field Name.

You can populate ACF Fields with the “Add New Custom Field Rule” area on the Settings/Media Library Assistant IPTC/EXIF or Custom Fields tabs. On my system the field names show up in the “Name” dropdown list on both of these pages. If the fields are not showing up on your system can you post or send me the details of your Field Group definition?

The “MLA Advanced Custom Fields Example” plugin is not required for simple ACF text fields. If you are using one of the more complex field types let me know and I will investigate further.

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful, thanks.

I’m experiencing the same thing, and am wondering if it’s due to the fact that my ACF field definition is set to only show the custom field on Attachments. What settings should be in the Location Rules section of the ACF field definition in order for the fields to appear in the “Add New Custom Field Rule” area?

@jeff-daigle – Thanks for your report.

It now occurs to me that the problem might just be that you have not added the field(s) to any of your Media Library items. To compile the list of available fields MLA queries the database for all fields assigned to one or more items; until you populate the custom field in an item it will not show up in the list.

You can use the “Enter new field” link just below the Name dropdown list to add a rule before populating the field. Just make sure you enter the ACF Field Name as explained in my first response.

Let me know if that helps. Thanks!

@dglingren That was it! I didn’t realize you could just type the ACF name if it didn’t appear on the list. I added it that way to a Custom Field mapping and ran the mapping for a test image and the data was mapped properly. Thanks for the help!
