I have a page template that I’m combining Advanced Custom Fields groups along with the Gutenberg editor (not using ACF to create blocks). Does anyone know if it’s possible to order the ACF groups above the Gutenberg editor? The “Order No.” field in ACF doesn’t seem to do anything. The Gutenberg editor is on the top of the page and the ACF Field groups are below. I’d like to reverse them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • still no ideas?

Right now they’re just showing in Gutenberg in the default custom fields area. Just like before 5.0, that location is “below” the editor (even if it doesn’t really look like it).

You can set the metabox to display above the editor, below the editor, or in the sidebar in Gutenberg as well. However, just like ACF has always worked, you will still have to manually call all the ACF fields in your template file.

If you want to be interspersing ACF fields with different Gutenberg core blocks, and even giving your user the ability to move them around themselves, you will be able to do that with ACF v5.8.0 using the ACF blocks function. https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/blog/acf-5-8-introducing-acf-blocks-for-gutenberg/

However that version is still in beta and we don’t have an official release date yet. You can download the beta though and test on your staging site in the meantime!

Hi, I’m making happily use of ACF blocks, it works super and lets you register the block, fields ánd callback in a single php file that you can quickly share between projects: great for a modular approach!
However: for some fixed page element like header elements I’d love to have fixed ACF’s above the Gutenberg editor. But this seems impossible? Position setting: high (Above the editor) doesn’t work.
Any help moving ACF’s above the content editor would be great.
Thanks for the great plugin, an essential to all my sites.

Bill Erickson inspired me to solve this issue by moving the ACF’s into blocks and lock them in the desired order and position. This way you can add a header / paragraph / footer to a curtain post type.
