Action scheduler – adjust download permissions bug

    Hello.

    I’m having issues with the action scheduler – it’s stuck in an infinite loop, repeating one action indefinitely.
    Hook: adjust_download_permissions

    The actioscheduler tables are getting huge (30MB in less than a day) and the server load is insane – 13TiB of queries in 5 days with an average of 17M select statements per hour. I have tried selectively disabling plugins one by one until there was only WooCommerce left, but no luck. I have truncated actionscheduler_logs and actionscheduler_actions yesterday.

    I’ve noticed other people have the same issue, but I have not found a solution.

    Observation:
    1. There’s no such problem on a local staging site copy. The action scheduler is acting like it should. The local machine is Apache server with PHP8.1 and also Litespeed server with PHP8.1. I made sure it’s not Litespeed server’s fault.
    2. Plenty of transients: 2600, no expired transients.
    3. There’s no recent fatal errors log.

    That indicates the problem is from the server/hosting end.

    2. PHP Version: 8.1.3

    Can you please downgrade to PHP version 7.4 and see if that helps?

    3. Also, I would recommend installing the WP Crontrol plugin available here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-crontrol/

    Once it’s installed, you can go to Tools > Cron Events to see if there are any errors or messages listed at the top of the page that might explain the issues you are experiencing.

    4. You could also check for any fatal errors under WooCommerce > Status > Logs that might explain why things are the way they are.

    Downgrading to PHP7.4 doesn’t help. It’s still repeating the same action.

    The only difference between local staging copy and live production is that the live server has an active REST API connection for stock sync that refreshes every 5 minutes. It could be related to this, but we’re only syncing the price and stock for single products and variations.

    There’s no adjust_download_permissions hook in WP-Crontrol. Some hooks have empty actions. Also no errors.

    There’s no recent fatal error logs and older logs are about plugin crashes (not WooCommerce crashing but failed updates that I’ve already fixed).

    Same exact issue, started with the latest update of Woocommerce. I can clean the actions, totally empty the tables and they are back again. No errors. I also suspect they are coming from an API inventory feed, any chance yours is Finale?

    @theconnectedrider, our API is custom made by a company that also provides other product and stock management software. The API was coded by WooCommerce experts, so it’s hard to think it’s their fault. Anyway, it’s probably because of the API sync. I’m hoping WooCommerce will patch this glitch soon. I’ve seen people having the same issue almost a year ago. It’s around 5-6 months for me and I believe it started when we setup the REST API.

    We’re just waiting for our hosting provider to call us and ask what the f*** is going on, generating that much data ??
