Luckily BP 2.0 has Activation option integrated….

However I would suggest something I’m trying to achieve:

To let people browse groups even before activation, after registration, but not allowing them to open single group until activated…
    the same for members…

    Ideally would be:
    – Allow browsing groups even if not registered/activated (open to any visitor)
    – Allow browsing members after registration, not before, and…
    – Don’t allow visiting any “single” group or member page until activated/approved.

    Any help?

    Thanks!

Hmm, it sounds like those ideas are going to end up going in the opposite direction of where I was thinking of taking the next version, after BP2.0 came out.

I was looking over their new moderation stuff last night and kicking tires. Was going to hook into the wp_insert_user hook or whichever it is, set their user status to 1, aka “spam” to BP2.0, and change some login messages. When the user is marked as spam, they can’t even log in, even after activation. So there goes half the code in the plugin right there.

Realistically our plugin is going to dwindle to not much if I go through with all of my thoughts, but I’ll probably still try to support bbPress somehow, and attempt a way to add banning capabilities.

Resulted in backing away from piggybacking onto this functionality. In part because I want to get a new version out, but also because it would force me to have move it to just BP2.0+, which is just a bit too much to cut off.

Also doing that would prevent me from being able to support bbPress as well, which is something I’ve wanted to do for a long while.

Regarding the original thread topic, I’m going to leave that for BuddyPress itself to do.
