• I’m sure these things are related but how, well, there’s the question.

    First up, I had an issue with my login screen not appearing. That seems okay now once I managed to update the themes. Although I don’t recall how I managed that without the login.

    Now, though, when I click to activate a plugin, the dashboard doesn’t reload to say all is well.

    I hit backspace and it’s back and if I Control reload the plugin page it will say the plugin is now active.

    However, just now I got this error message when installing the Classic Editor,
    `Installation failed: {“success”:true,”data”:{“install”:”plugin”,”slug”:”classic-editor”,”pluginName”:”Classic Editor”,”activateUrl”:”https:\/\/www.oxonscalextricclub.co.uk\/wp-admin\/plugins.php?_wpnonce=182740405c&action=activate&plugin=classic-editor\/classic-editor.php”}}

    But the plugin was there when I Control reloaded again.

    Yet when I now edit a page and ‘Save draft’, the editor doesn’t reappear; I get a white screen. Hit the backspace, and my work is there.

    What’s going on and, more importantly, how do I stop it? ;o)

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Nineteen theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

    If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Hey. Thanks for that.

    So, I misread your instructions and dived straight into swapping out my first-stab child theme and, hey presto, when I edited a page or installed your Health Check it all played ball.

    And when I reverted to my child… it all went back to misbehaving. The thing is, it was fine until the core code was updated. Any ideas where I start to look for the glitch??

    Hm, unfortunately that’s a bit hard to say without diving through all of the changes. Did you develop the child theme yourself? If so, I’d start by investigating the theme’s functions.php.

    Well, calling it a ‘theme’ is a bit of a stretch – I’ve only just started with it. ;o)

    There’s scant stuff in my functions.php but I guess I just comment out a bit at a time and see if that makes any changes??

    Thanks for the steers so far. I’ll poke around like I say and see what I break next!

    Yep, commenting out each function is what I’d start with too.
