    I played around with the settings

    so do you also get the error when only enabling HTML optimization (so no JS and no CSS optimization)?

    in that case you have a conflict, with something (probably a plugin) that is either doing something wrong with the output buffer OR trying to minify your HTML as well.

    2 next steps are possible:
    1. look in your PHP-errorlog for an indication of what is going on
    OR
    2. selectively deactivate each plugin (and/ or switch theme) and see if/ when the problem goes away
