Hello! SimpleTOC is a perfectly simple TOC block but…

When SimpleTOC block is added to a page the TOC is created and works fine BUT all the headlines in the content disappear. They are in the content but somehow they get cleaned out of the rendered page.

    • Problem occurs in custom themes and Twenty Twentyone so it is not a theme based problem.
    • Problem also occurs with or without any other plugins. Tested.
    • Problem also occurs with and without cache.
    • Only visible PHP error is the one discussed here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/php-warning-295/. Upgrading to the not yet published version 4.9 helps with that but does not help with the actual problem.

PHP is (unfortunately) in version 7.3.x if that means anything.

Unfortunately I am unable to provide a live example at the moment but hopefully this finds someone with similar difficulties who can. ??

    Hi,

something must be special about your content. Please try to write a new post without any special markup. Did you convert your content from another source? Since I can not replicate this in a test and we have no live post it is hard to analyse why this happens to you.

I know I didn’t offer much to hold on to. Sorry about that.

I tried with a new page with simple headlines and paragraphs but the same thing happens.

Also, tested another TOC plugin and that one works ok (but is uglier) so now I am trying to compare the code on both. Maybe something arises…

Maybe some kind of setup problem with the server?

I need to see the page to understand the problem. Maybe it is a problem with a missing HTMLDOM extension in php. PHP 7.3 might be too old. Please have a look in your server log for any errors. But even then the headlines should still be there.
Please provide an url with the problem: One url without the block and a duplicate of the post with SimpleTOC and the problem. Thanks

What makes my lousy bug report even worse is that I don’t have access to this crappy server’s logs. I can’t even provide buggy examples for confidelity reasons.

I am closing this thread and put the blame on my client’s ISP as your plugin works just fine in any other servers I have access to.

    Thanks.

Okay. Start by updating PHP. Most likely, this is the problem. And think about a review. =)
