    Hello,
I’m trying to activate Google Webmaster Tools. Step one is they give you an html page to download. Step 2 is that you upload it to your own site so they can verify it’s yours.

Where are you supposed to upload it? As a page? a post? Media?
How can you keep it from being publicly visible?
    Thanks in advance.

  • You’re on the right track, but don’t try to put it “in” through your WordPress dashboard. You want to upload that HTML file into your site with an FTP client or your cPanel File Manager. Just upload it to the root of your website (the public_html or www folder, usually).

It must be publicly visible, so Google’s bot can crawl it and verify it’s there. Don’t worry– people are not likely to find it because you aren’t going to link to it, and even if they did find it somehow, there’s nothing sensitive inside it.

You are quite welcome. Glad I was able to help.

When you have a moment, could I ask you to please mark this thread as resolved? Thank you.
