I released version 1.8.2 right after your post specifically to fix the “try” error… Are you seeing the exact same error message now or is it different?

Thank you, Rolf, for seeking to address the issue. I think that any misunderstanding about versions installed may have arisen from the fact that I have automated updates enabled for the plugin. I have clicked ‘Activate’ again and can confirm that the problem is not recurring, thank you.

I checked that the plugin was working through using a search for the term ‘variable view’ on my site. As “view” is a very popular term on my site, can you advise, please, on advice I could offer users on ensuring that the term ‘variable view’ is searched for rather than its component terms?

When searching for a phrase rather than separate terms, a user can use quotes. So searching for "variable view" (with the quotation marks) should return only posts with that exact phrase, not all posts where either ‘variable’ or ‘view’ are found.

Please note: this plugin does not change the search results or behaviour of WordPress internal search mechanism, it only highlights the terms. If you need more advanced search features, there are other plugins available that can do that but those might not be compatible with this highlight plugin…

Do you know of any steps that would allow me to place the above tip close to the search box once and for all (so that it is on every page of my site where the search box appears)? Perhaps a widget would work. You may have an alternative or more precise suggestion, however.

Hi, it depends entirely on your theme… You might be able to disable the integrated search form and replace it with your own search widget? Otherwise yes, adding a widget close to the search field with instructions might be the best approach.
