Activation of Polylang breaks my site

Hello,
I’m using Zerif lite theme for my site. The content of the site is in Bulgarian language(Cyrilic alphabet) as well there are some English words in it. I’ve tried to make my site multilingual with Polylang.
When I activate the plugin the main page breaks down. The following message appears:
“Nothing found
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help.”
I followed the instruction described in https://docs.themeisle.com/article/80-how-to-translate-zerif, https://docs.themeisle.com/article/589-how-to-add-polylang-language-switcher-to-themes and https://polylang.pro/doc/strings-translation/, but nothing happened.
Currently the plugin is deactivate.
I kindly ask for some support regarding this issue.
