I have a low volume store and had an order last night and wanted to see if I can find the customer in the activity log. I searched for the product page they bought, checkout, cart and the IP address listed in the order and the activity log comes up empty every time. I am a bit curious how the user was NOT logged and the log shows NO activity on any of those pages or the IP when clearly the pages HAD to have been hit and the IP HAD to have been in there. What gives? I can see MY activity and other activity.

    Hi,

Can you go to the main Config menu > Activity Log > Log To DB, and review the logging levels you have selected there, please? Make sure that the activity logging settings in Shield are properly configured to log all necessary activities you need. We have a guide on this here.

Also, do you use page cache? If yes, ensure that your caching plugin/or system isn’t caching important pages like the product page, cart, and checkout.

    Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this.

So we need to be clear about what exactly we’re looking for when we’re looking at the logs. There are 2 types of logs: WordPress Activity logs, and Traffic/Request logs.

The traffic and pages requested would only be showing up in the Traffic/Request logs if:

    • you’d enabled the Traffic logging option
    • and the requests weren’t excluded. If you’re in-doubt, turn off all traffic logging exclusions
    • typically normal browsing requests won’t show up, as they’re excluded by default.

The actual user activity relating to WordPress would show up in the activity log only if:

    • the logging is enabled (which it is, since you said your activity was being recorded)
    • perhaps your store is creating/logging in users in an irregular manner. Shield will do its best to capture all logins, but sometimes a store will create a new user & log them in all in the one the request, and this can be done outside normal WordPress flows. Shield will try to capture this also.

Have you tried opening the Activity Log and under the Events filter, filtering by “user registered” or “User Login” ?

I would find it entirely strange that Shield didn’t capture this activity.

Remember, you’ll need to use the correctly logging type depending on what you’re trying to review: WordPress Activity or Traffic/Requests.

Also, as Jelena has mentioned, if you’re making heavy use of Page Caching, these may also not show up in the Request Logs as they won’t trigger WordPress or Shield.

The configuration is set to Alert, Warning & Notice and I am looking in the Dashboard ? Traffic ? Request Logs.
