Hi. Perhaps not directly related to the plugin, I apologize, but I have an issue writing my ActivityPub ID on my WordPress website. If I want to write down my ID in the Gutenberg editor (“@[author]@[domain].[extension]”), the WordPress editor always pops up the automatic balloon for making a author link (“@[author]”). For some reason I can’t ignore this automatic link creation.

So in the editor it still shows the AP ID I’ve written down, and when you hover over it, it shows the unavoidable author balloon, but on the published page it just says “@[author]”.

I do have Pixelfed and that seems to accept “[author]@[domain].[ext]” without the ‘@’ in the search bar. So can I just note it like that? Or maybe should I start using shortcode for the ‘@’ symbol so Gutenberg editor ignores what it sees as a author link?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

This is a hard one! Thanks for your report, I will see if there are options to work around this issue or maybe use this issues for ActivityPub auto-completion.

@pfefferle Thanks for your reply. Tried some shortcode workaround but that didn’t work. Only way I found is to format the text as code. Anyway, thanks for your work, really appreciate it!

EDIT: I temporarily turned off the ActivityPub plugin, and actually, this was the culprit! I thought it was just WordPress being stuborn. I have no idea how or why, I don’t have the skills to comprehend that. Anyhow, hope there is some way to address this. I’d have to share my ActivityPub ID on the website to instruct visitors, but I can’t in plain text at this point.

EDIT 2: You have noted in the plugin settings people can follow me by using the “[author]@[domain].[ext]” or the WordPress author link. I apologize. This somewhat makes sense to me now. Any time I write down the full ActivityPub ID (which has the ‘@’ in front of it), it changes it to the author page which also works for following me.
