ad groups in widget by category

Hi, I’m just starting to play with this plugin, but I’m wondering about setting categories for ad groups. I’d like the ad to only show up in the sidebar AND only for certain categories. The plugin only seems to allow for ads to be injected in the main content. Do I need to ignore category choice in adrotate and just use something like dynamic widgets to get this kind of choice? Please let me know. Thanks
